Shah Rukh Khan (born Shahrukh Khan; 2 November 1965), known as SRK also, can be an Indian film professional, producer and television set personality. Described in the media as the "Baadshah of Bollywood", "King of Bollywood" or "King Khan", he has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. Khan has a significant following in Asia and the Indian diaspora worldwide. Khan started out his career with appearances in several tv set series in the later 1980s. He made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with Deewana. Early in his profession, Khan was accepted for portraying villainous roles in the films Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Anjaam (1994). He then increased to prominence after starring in a series of romantic videos, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001). He gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of the alcoholic in Devdas (2002), a NASA scientist in Swades (2004), a hockey instructor in Chak De! India (2007) and a guy with Asperger symptoms in my own Name Is Khan (2010). His highest-grossing motion pictures include the comedies Chennai Exhibit (2013) and Happy New Time (2014). Many of his videos display themes or templates of Indian countrywide identity and associations with diaspora neighborhoods, or gender, racial, social and religious grievances and differences. For his contributions to film, the federal government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, and the federal government of France awarded him both the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the L?gion d'honneur.



By 2015, Khan is co-chairman of the motion picture creation company Red Chillies Entertainment and its own subsidiaries, and is also the co-owner of the Indian Top Category cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. Khan's philanthropic endeavours have provided healthcare and disaster pain relief, and he was honoured with UNESCO's Pyramide con Marni award in 2011 for his support of children's education. He spent the first five years of his life in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Ifthikar Ahmed, served as the chief engineer of the port in the 1960s. Corresponding to Khan, his paternal grandfather, Jan Muhammad, an ethnic Pathan was from Afghanistan. Shah Rukh Khan also said in his interviews that he is a Pathan from Peshawar and his complete family used to speak Hindko vocabulary at home. Khan's daddy, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was an Indian freedom activist in Peshawar, British isles India (present-day Pakistan). As of 2010, Khan's paternal family was still surviving in Shah Wali Qataal region of Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. Meer was a follower of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and associated with the All Indian Country wide Congress. He relocated to New Delhi in 1948 partition of India. Khan's mother, Lateef Fatima, was the little princess of a senior federal government engineer. His parents were married in 1959. Khan detailed himself on Twitter as "50 percent Hyderabadi (mother), 50 percent Pathan (daddy), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". His paternal cousins in Peshawar claim that the family is of Hindkowan origins from Kashmir, not Pashtun, and also contradict the claim that his grandfather was from Afghanistan.



Khan grew in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi up. His father had several businesses including a restaurant, and the grouped family resided a middle-class life in rented apartments rentals. Khan attended St. Columba's Institution in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in activities such as hockey and soccer, and received the school's highest award, the Sword of Honour. After the death of their parents, his aged sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh, blessed in 1960, fell into a despondent state and Khan took on the responsibility of looking after her. Shahnaz is constantly on the live with her brother and his family in their Mumbai mansion.


Although Khan was presented with the beginning name Shahrukh Khan, he prefers his name to be written as Shah Rukh Khan, and is commonly described by the acronym SRK. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a traditional Hindu marriage ceremony on 25 October 1991, following a six-year courtship. They have a son Aryan (born 1997) and a little girl Suhana (born 2000). In 2013, they became parents of an third child called AbRam, who was simply born by having a surrogate mother. Corresponding to Khan, while he highly thinks in Islam, he also values his wife's religious beliefs. His children follow both religions; at home the Qur'an can be found next to the Hindu deities.
