Shah Rukh Khan (given birth to Shahrukh Khan; 2 November 1965), known as SRK also, is an Indian film professional, television and producer personality. Described in the media as the "Baadshah of Bollywood", "King of Bollywood" or "King Khan", he has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in female family in New Delhi. He spent the first five many years of his life in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Ifthikar Ahmed, served as the principle engineer of the port in the 1960s. Khan explained himself on Twitter as "50 percent Hyderabadi (mother), one half Pathan (daddy), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". His paternal cousins in Peshawar declare that the grouped family is of Hindkowan source from Kashmir, not Pashtun, and also contradict the claim that his grandfather was from Afghanistan.



Khan was raised in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi. His father had several business ventures including a restaurant, and the family lived a middle-class life in rented apartments. Khan attended St. Columba's School in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in sports activities such as hockey and soccer, and received the school's highest prize, the Sword of Honour. In his youngsters, he acted in stage plays and received reward for his imitations of Bollywood actors, of which his favourites were Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Mumtaz and Bachchan.
