Shah Rukh Khan (blessed Shahrukh Khan; 2 November 1965), also known as SRK, is an Indian film professional, producer and tv personality. Described in the media as the "Baadshah of Bollywood", "King of Bollywood" or "King Khan", he has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. Khan has a significant following in Asia and the Indian diaspora worldwide. In conditions of audience size and income, he has been referred to as one of the most successful film actors in the global world.

Khan began his job with appearances in a number of tv set series in the late 1980s. He made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with Deewana. Early on in his job, Khan was recognized for portraying villainous tasks in the movies Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Anjaam (1994). Then increased to prominence after starring in a series of romantic movies, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001). He attained critical acclaim for his portrayal of the alcoholic in Devdas (2002), a NASA scientist in Swades (2004), a hockey instructor in Chak De! India (2007) and a guy with Asperger symptoms in My Name Is Khan (2010). His highest-grossing videos include the comedies Chennai Express (2013) and Happy New Year (2014). A lot of his videos display themes or templates of Indian countrywide contacts and personality with diaspora communities, or gender, racial, social and religious grievances and differences. For his contributions to film, the national government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, and the federal government of France awarded him both the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the L?gion d'honneur.



As of 2015, Khan is co-chairman of the film creation company Red Chillies Entertainment and its subsidiaries, and is also the co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. He is a frequent television set stage and presenter show performer. The media often label him as "Brand SRK" because of his many endorsement and entrepreneurship ventures. Khan's philanthropic endeavours have provided health care and disaster comfort, and he was honoured with UNESCO's Pyramide con Marni award in 2011 for his support of children's education. He regularly features in listings of the most influential people in Indian culture, and in 2008, Newsweek named him one of their fifty most effective people in the global world.

He spent the first five years of his life in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Ifthikar Ahmed, served as the principle engineer of the port in the 1960s. Matching to Khan, his paternal grandfather, Jan Muhammad, an ethnic Pathan was from Afghanistan. Shah Rukh Khan also said in his interviews that he's a Pathan from Peshawar and his complete family used to speak Hindko dialect at home. Khan's dad, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was an Indian independence activist in Peshawar, English India (present-day Pakistan). As of 2010, Khan's paternal family was still moving into Shah Wali Qataal section of Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. Meer was a follower of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and affiliated with the All Indian National Congress. He moved to New Delhi in 1948 partition of India. Khan's mom, Lateef Fatima, was the princess of a older government engineer. His parents were married in 1959. Khan referred to himself on Twitter as "50 percent Hyderabadi (mom), 1 / 2 Pathan (dad), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". His paternal cousins in Peshawar declare that the grouped family is of Hindkowan source from Kashmir, not Pashtun, and also contradict the claim that his grandfather was from Afghanistan.



Khan grew up in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi. His father had several business ventures including a restaurant, and the family lived a middle-class life in rented apartments. Khan attended St. Columba's College in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in activities such as hockey and sports, and received the school's highest award, the Sword of Honour. In his youngsters, he acted in stage takes on and received compliment for his imitations of Bollywood stars, of which his favourites were Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Mumtaz. One of his childhood friends and acting partners was Amrita Singh, who became a Bollywood actress. Khan enrolled at Hansraj College (1985-88) to earn his bachelor's degree in Economics, but spent a lot of his time at Delhi's Theatre Action Group (TAG), where he researched operating under the mentorship of theater director Barry John. After Hansraj, he commenced learning for a master's level in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia, but left to follow his acting job. He also went to the National College of Dilemma in Delhi during his early career in Bollywood. His father died of cancers in 1981, and his mom passed on in 1991 from problems of diabetes. Following the death of these parents, his elderly sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh, delivered in 1960, fell into a frustrated status and Khan required on the duty of looking after her. Shahnaz continues to live with her brother and his family in their Mumbai mansion.


Although Khan was presented with the birth name Shahrukh Khan, he prefers his name to be written as Shah Rukh Khan, and is commonly referred to by the acronym SRK. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a traditional Hindu marriage ceremony on 25 October 1991, following a six-year courtship. They have a kid Aryan (born 1997) and a girl Suhana (blessed 2000). In 2013, they became parents of the third child known as AbRam, who was simply born via a surrogate mother. Matching to Khan, while he firmly is convinced in Islam, he also values his wife's religious beliefs. His children follow both religions; at home the Qur'an can be found next to the Hindu deities.
