Khan detailed himself on Twitter as "50 % Hyderabadi (mom), 50 % Pathan (father), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". He also attended the National Institution of Dilemma in Delhi during his early profession in Bollywood. His father died of tumors in 1981, and his mom perished in 1991 from complications of diabetes. After the death of the parents, his more aged sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh, created in 1960, fell into a frustrated Khan and point out needed on the responsibility of caring for her. Shahnaz continues to live with her brother and his family in their Mumbai mansion.


Although Khan was given the beginning name Shahrukh Khan, he prefers his name to be written as Shah Rukh Khan, and is often referred to by the acronym SRK. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a normal Hindu wedding ceremony on 25 October 1991, after having a six-year courtship. They have a child Aryan (given birth to 1997) and a little princess Suhana (created 2000). In 2013, they became parents of any third child named AbRam, who was simply born by having a surrogate mother. According to Khan, while he firmly feels in Islam, he also prices his wife's faith. His children follow both religions; at home the Qur'an can be found next to the Hindu deities.
