Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in a Muslim family in New Delhi. Khan grew in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi up. His father had several business ventures including a restaurant, and the family lived a middle-class life in rented apartments. Khan attended St. Columba's University in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in sports such as hockey and soccer, and received the school's highest prize, the Sword of Honour. After the death of their parents, his aged sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh, delivered in 1960, dropped into a depressed status and Khan got on the duty of looking after her. Shahnaz continues to live with her brother and his family in their Mumbai mansion.


Although Khan was presented with the labor and birth name Shahrukh Khan, he prefers his name to be written as Shah Rukh Khan, and is often described by the acronym SRK. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, october 1991 in a normal Hindu marriage ceremony on 25, following a six-year courtship. They have a boy Aryan (given birth to 1997) and a princess Suhana (created 2000). In 2013, they truly became parents of a third child called AbRam, who was born by using a surrogate mother. According to Khan, while he firmly is convinced in Islam, he also prices his wife's religion. His children follow both religions; at home the Qur'an can be found next to the Hindu deities.
