Shah Rukh Khan (blessed Shahrukh Khan; 2 November 1965), known as SRK also, is an Indian film acting professional, television and producer personality. Described in the media as the "Baadshah of Bollywood", "King of Bollywood" or "King Khan", he has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. Khan started his job with appearances in several tv series in the past due 1980s. He made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with Deewana. He spent the first five years of his life in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Ifthikar Ahmed, served as the chief engineer of the port in the 1960s. According to Khan, his paternal grandfather, Jan Muhammad, an ethnic Pathan was from Afghanistan. Shah Rukh Khan also said in his interviews that he's a Pathan from Peshawar and his entire family used to speak Hindko language at home. Khan's father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was an Indian freedom activist in Peshawar, British India (present-day Pakistan). By 2010, Khan's paternal family was still residing in Shah Wali Qataal region of Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. Meer was a follower of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and associated with the All Indian National Congress. He transferred to New Delhi in 1948 partition of India. Khan's mom, Lateef Fatima, was the child of a senior administration engineer. His parents were married in 1959. Khan described himself on Twitter as "one half Hyderabadi (mother), 50 % Pathan (dad), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". His paternal cousins in Peshawar declare that the grouped family is of Hindkowan origins from Kashmir, not Pashtun, and also contradict the claim that his grandfather was from Afghanistan.



Khan grew in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi up. His father had several business ventures including a restaurant, and the grouped family lived a middle-class life in rented apartments. Khan attended St. Columba's School in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in athletics such as hockey and sports, and received the school's highest prize, the Sword of Honour. In his youth, he acted in stage works and received reward for his imitations of Bollywood actors, of which his favourites were Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Mumtaz. One of his childhood friends and acting partners was Amrita Singh, who became a Bollywood actress. Khan enrolled at Hansraj College (1985-88) to earn his bachelor's degree in Economics, but put in a lot of his time at Delhi's Theater Action Group (Label), where he analyzed behaving under the mentorship of theater director Barry John. After Hansraj, he commenced learning for a master's degree in Mass Marketing communications at Jamia Millia Islamia, but kept to pursue his acting profession. He also went to the National College of Drama in Delhi during his early on profession in Bollywood. His father died of cancers in 1981, and his mother passed away in 1991 from issues of diabetes. After the death of these parents, his aged sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh, born in 1960, fell into a frustrated Khan and express needed on the responsibility of caring for her. Shahnaz continues to live with her brother and his family in their Mumbai mansion.


Although Khan was given the delivery name Shahrukh Khan, he prefers his name to be written as Shah Rukh Khan, and is commonly described by the acronym SRK. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, october 1991 in a normal Hindu wedding ceremony on 25, after a six-year courtship. They have a son Aryan (delivered 1997) and a child Suhana (born 2000). In 2013, they became parents of any third child called AbRam, who was simply born by having a surrogate mother. According to Khan, while he highly feels in Islam, he also prices his wife's religion. His children follow both religions; at home the Qur'an can be found next to the Hindu deities.
