Khan started out his job with appearances in several tv series in the late 1980s. He made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with Deewana. Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in woman family in New Delhi. He spent the first five many years of his life in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Ifthikar Ahmed, served as the principle engineer of the port in the 1960s. Regarding to Khan, his paternal grandfather, Jan Muhammad, an cultural Pathan was from Afghanistan. Shah Rukh Khan also said in his interviews that he's a Pathan from Peshawar and his whole family used to speak Hindko vocabulary at home. Khan's dad, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was an Indian self-reliance activist in Peshawar, United kingdom India (present-day Pakistan). As of 2010, Khan's paternal family was still surviving in Shah Wali Qataal area of Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. Meer was a follower of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and affiliated with the All Indian National Congress. He shifted to New Delhi in 1948 partition of India. Khan's mom, Lateef Fatima, was the child of a mature federal government engineer. His parents were hitched in 1959. Khan described himself on Twitter as "fifty percent Hyderabadi (mom), 50 % Pathan (dad), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". His paternal cousins in Peshawar claim that the family is of Hindkowan origin from Kashmir, not Pashtun, and also contradict the claim that his grandfather was from Afghanistan.



Khan was raised in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi. His father had several business ventures including a restaurant, and the family lived a middle-class life in rented apartments. Khan attended St. Columba's College in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in sports activities such as hockey and football, and received the school's highest honor, the Sword of Honour.
