Shah Rukh Khan (given birth to Shahrukh Khan; 2 November 1965), also known as SRK, is an Indian film professional, television and producer personality. Described in the media as the "Baadshah of Bollywood", "King of Bollywood" or "King Khan", he has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in lady family in New Delhi. He spent the first five years of his life in Mangalore, where his maternal grandfather, Ifthikar Ahmed, served as the principle engineer of the port in the 1960s. Matching to Khan, his paternal grandfather, Jan Muhammad, an ethnic Pathan was from Afghanistan. Shah Rukh Khan also said in his interviews that he is a Pathan from Peshawar and his whole family used to speak Hindko dialect at home. Khan's dad, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was an Indian independence activist in Peshawar, British India (present-day Pakistan). As of 2010, Khan's paternal family was still residing in Shah Wali Qataal portion of Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. Meer was a follower of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and associated with the All Indian National Congress. He migrated to New Delhi in 1948 partition of India. Khan's mother, Lateef Fatima, was the child of a mature federal government engineer. His parents were committed in 1959. Khan described himself on Twitter as "half Hyderabadi (mom), fifty percent Pathan (dad), [and] some Kashmiri (grandmother)". His paternal cousins in Peshawar claim that the family is of Hindkowan origins from Kashmir, not Pashtun, and contradict the claim that his grandfather was from Afghanistan also.



Khan grew in the Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood of Delhi up. His father had several business ventures including a restaurant, and the grouped family lived a middle-class life in rented flats. Khan attended St. Columba's Institution in central Delhi where he excelled in his studies and in athletics such as hockey and sports, and received the school's highest award, the Sword of Honour. Following the death of their parents, his more mature sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh, born in 1960, fell into a despondent condition and Khan required on the responsibility of looking after her. Shahnaz is constantly on the live with her brother and his family in their Mumbai mansion.


Although Khan was given the beginning name Shahrukh Khan, he prefers his name to be written as Shah Rukh Khan, and is often referred to by the acronym SRK. He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony on 25 October 1991, after a six-year courtship. They have a son Aryan (delivered 1997) and a little princess Suhana (born 2000). In 2013, they truly became parents of any third child named AbRam, who was born through a surrogate mother. Corresponding to Khan, while he firmly believes in Islam, he also values his wife's religion. His children follow both religions; at home the Qur'an can be found next to the Hindu deities.
